The Magnitude of Organizational and Cross-Cultural Factors in Learning

Presenter: Kizzy M. Dominguez, Ph.D

President, K. Parks Consulting, Inc. (KPC)

Opportunities to develop and launch global training are on the rise. While many learning and development professionals have experience with the dos and taboos of working across borders, not many have developed a tool-kit to conduct training in other countries that successfully balances the demands of both the organization’s internal culture and the cross-cultural factors involved when embarking on global training opportunities.

In this informative session, Dr. Dominguez will describe the process and plan used when integrating learning into Medtronic’s various locations in India, draw on her experience with other multi-national organizations, and research. At the end of the session, participants will leave with several tips for training in cross-cultural settings including:

•    Incorporating organizational culture in instructor-led and e-learning
•    Social, political, and regional considerations
•    Ways learners may need to participate differently due to these factors
•    Methods to make the learning more sustainable in multi-national settings
